GIRAFLOWER - PRIMAVERA SOUND, PORTO

Art Installation 2026

Where the mechanical gesture of a turntable meets the organic delicacy of the camellia: a flower woven into the very soul of Porto. GIRAFLOWER , an art installation that comes into being. One of Cláudia Costa Vasconcelos's most ambitious installations to date, it was conceived within her studio practice, Fierce-Art, as an act of translation: turning the intangible into form, sound into structure, memory into light.

Built in aluminum and finished in metallic paint, GIRAFLOWER unfolds in concentric circles, visual reverberations of a spinning record. At its heart blooms an abstract, evocative flower, where the camellia dissolves into a contemporary language of light, proportion and scale. The structure is not merely architectural: it is rhythm, repetition and memory in motion.

PRESENCE AND TRANSFORMATION

GIRAFLOWER announces itself through scale and color. It is unapologetically bold, a work with a personality as intense as the space it inhabits. It positions the public not as spectators but as active participants within a sensory field: the closer you move, the more the bodies recognize the scale. The collective experience continuously reshapes the artwork.

COLOUR AS LANGUAGE

Violet, applied to the main structure, carries with it a charge of mystery, spirituality and transformation. Historically bound to the exceptional and the ceremonial, it insists on singularity, on the sense that what stands before you is unlike anything else. It is also a color of pure creative energy, entirely at home within a festival like Primavera Sound.

Pink, present in the base structure that grounds and cradles the violet, enters as counterpoint. It softens. It pulls you in. It speaks of the emotional, the human, the close. Between these two chromatic forces an equilibrium holds: violet as depth and suspension, pink as warmth and affection, together composing an emotional landscape that draws the viewer ever deeper into the work.
